Unlocking Vodafone Mobiles

Found out yesterday that Vodafone unlock phones within Contract for free and those on PAYG for £19.99, and the latter is taken off the balance of your credit.

On this occasion I wanted to unlock an Apple iPhone, this is 13 months into a contract. But really easy, once we received confirmation we plugged it into iTunes and the handset was unlocked.

iPhone Apps: Word Lens

I’ve had Word Lens on my iPhone since the day I saw it on BBC Click. The app is very clever, all you need to do is hover over text and Word Lens reads it and can display it backwards or delete it completely. But there are also some additional packs you can purchase for it; English to Spanish, Spanish to English and more recently French to English and Vice versa. I bought one of these (expensive) packs for going to Spain with, more just to play with. It was very very clever, as said before. Hover over the text, and you can pause the screen so that you can read what it has translated. I found it fantastic for menus and information boards, and although I did Spanish at school for 2 years it was very useful. Also great to have a play with the free packs.

How to enable iTunes Match on ios5

iTunes Match is now available in the UK and I have signed up for the £21.99 per annum service! What iTunes Match does is enable you to stream your music collection (upto 25,000 songs) on all of your itunes computers, Mac’s, iPhone, iPads and Apple TV.

You can sign up for this once you have downloaded iTunes 10.5.2. It took me a while to find out how to do it on my iOS5 devices, so have posted the instructions below. With thanks to Paul Sissons (of buymobiles.net) – You do need to turn the iTunes Match service up on your PC or Mac first. And also you don’t need to store the songs on your iOS device, you can stream them off the icloud as long as you have an internet connection.

First go to SETTINGS then MUSIC, a new switch appears called ITUNES MUSIC

Turn ITUNES MATCH on and enter your Apple ID, you will then get the following warning message

Just be wary that this does replace all of the music on your iOS5 device. Click ENABLE

Then decide if you want all of the music available on your iCloud to be shown on your iOS device.

Thats it! Easy!

Setting up a Mac Mini Server

So today I decided I was going to have a go at setting up the Mac Mini Server that I’ve had sitting around for the last year.

It did have Tiger Server on it but I decided to upgrade it to Lion via the App Store.

Downloading was easy enough, and when ready it gave me step by step instructions of how to start.

I will keep you posted as I progress through the installation.
