The Derby Wedding Showroom came about from an idea I had on a website. I wanted to offer local wedding services and products but just based on companies in a particular area.
I set Derby-Weddings.co.uk in the March 2010, the website was promoted with the help of the Wedding Professionals Network and quickly hit over 200 listings.
When Cocoon moved to it’s new premises on Melbourne Court on Pride Park, there was a large space downstairs that we didn’t really know what to do with.
I’d always wanted some sort of retail presence for my Balloon business but new that it would be difficult to fill 750sq ft, so with the help of Steve Lilley. I converted the downstairs into a retail showroom and sold a slatboard to a number of different companies including florists, wedding cake makers, photographers and so on. So it would be Derby’s first permanent wedding fayre that was open 6 days a week.
The showroom works really well, with the majority of the businesses who exhibit work from home, so they now have somewhere to meet their clients. The footfall of the showroom is steady and our text campaigns work well to draw people through the doors.
